Silk was always considered very valuable. It became popular very fast. It was such a precious fabric that only royalty was allowed to wear silk. When silk became extremely popular in China, it was used as currency. People could use silk just like money, except silk was worth a lot more. The value of silk finally became known outside of China and ignited an interest of other countries trading with China. The trading between countries led to the creation of the Silk Road. Only rich people could afford to buy any silk.
